Augostina Mallous was the reigning Miss New Jersey's Outstanding Teen 2017 through Miss New Jersey's Outstanding Teen Scholarship Program (Miss America's Outstanding Teen).
I am Augostina Mallous, Miss New Jersey's Outstanding Teen 2017. I believe that perseverance is key to living a healthy life, especially in the case that you have a concussion. My platform is Get Ahead of the Game Concussion Awareness and it is something that I'm truly passionate about. I created my platform based off of a personal experience. When I was in eighth grade I suffered my own concussion. It was just like any other ordinary Tuesday night at dance class except for the fact that I got hit in the head. It took me about seven months to recover from my concussion. I went through a lot, that whole experience, I had to go to four different types of therapy, three different types of doctors and for about a week I had to sit in a dim room and play with play dough because it hurt to think. I believe that the biggest thing that got me through this whole experience was me thinking about persevering. Perseverance is truly what helped me recover from my concussion with the help of my great support team, my family, my friends, my teachers, my doctors.
