Breaker is operated by Los Angeles-based Maple Media, a company that owns a portfolio of top mobile app businesses. Maple Media also owns and operates Player FM, one of the largest independent podcast apps on the App Store and Google Play. Breaker was founded in November 2016 by Leah Culver and Erik Berlin. The company graduated from Y Combinator in winter 2017 and now employs a small team of software engineers and designers in San Francisco, California.
