Sonny Turner is best known for replacing Tony Williams as lead singer of The Platters. The group had 40 charting singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including four no. 1 hits, and were, for a period of time, the most successful vocal group in the world.

This is Sonny Turner, lead singer from The Platters of The Platters from The Platters and just talking about feelings of when you get nostalgic or anything. Talk about what you think of, what you dream of, what you aspire to be. I got all that inspiration from my parents. My mother, being a gospel singer, a wonderful teacher, inspired me to sing when she found that I was sitting by the radio humming along with the singing on the radio. And she stopped and looked at me and told me to keep singing, and she stood there and listened. And she said, you can sing. She said, I want you to do that. Therefore, long story short, junior choir in church and many other opportunities that I had to perform and her encouragement to me was just that.
