N'Kenge is an actress who originated the role of Mary Wells in "Motown: The Musical" on Broadway. This Broadway darling was recently seen on television, as a presenter at the 58th Annual New York Emmy Awards.
Hi, my name is N'Kenge and I originated the role of Mary Wells in Broadway's Motown: The Musical. I made my Broadway debut in Sondheim On Sondheim, and I'm currently staring in the Dorothy Dandridge Musical. N'Kenge is a name from the Congo, it means superior in mind and my parents were very, very strong about me having an African name. In regards to autism, my first experience actually being exposed to that was singing for an event for GuiDANCE Autism which is located in North Hollywood founded by Kerisse Hutchinson and performing for these beautiful, wonderful, energetic kids, singing for them, seeing how they appreciated the music, this school that she's created teaches them dance and being able to feel free as individuals and artists. And being able to witness that was just so inspirational to see the love and the care that they are receiving from their teachers and the love and the care that they were actually sharing with each other. It was quite remarkable and I truly, truly support autism and any school like GuiDANCE Autism and all the other foundations that have been supporting autistic children because we need it.
