Augostina Mallous was the reigning Miss New Jersey's Outstanding Teen 2017 through Miss New Jersey's Outstanding Teen Scholarship Program (Miss America's Outstanding Teen). She is a 15-year-old sophomore from Cape May Court House, New Jersey. She attends Middle Township High School, where she is enrolled in honors academic courses and her school's medical academy, while maintaining above a 4.0 GPA. At school, she is a Student Council Representative, Varsity Football Cheerleader, and member of Key Club and Red Cross Club. Her scholastic ambitions include obtaining a Doctorate in Medicine and becoming an orthopedic surgeon.
Augostina's platform "Get Ahead of the Game: Concussion Awareness" was born out of a personal experience. She suffered from a concussion in eighth grade from which it took seven months to recover. This experience taught her the prevalence of concussions in today's society and the effect they can have on one's life. Her message to athletes and coaches is, "Sitting out a game or season is better than never playing again." She works with athletes and coaches to raise awareness about concussion prevention and helping to reach early diagnosis.
Dancing is one of Augostina's passions, as it has been an essential part of her life for as long as she can remember. She began dancing at the age of three and began competing at the age of five. She has won many national dance competitions with her dance team, Jersey Cape Dance and Gymnastics Academy. She is also trained in gymnastics, contortion, aerial arts, piano, and vocal.
Some of Augostina's other accomplishments include being on Honor Roll and receiving "Outstanding Achievement" awards for her success in the arts. Mayor Clark from Middle Township, her hometown, proclaimed December 6, 2016 "Augostina Mallous Day". She was also recognized by Senator Van Drew with a Joint Legislative Resolution for her volunteerism. She serves as a mentor for the "Precious Gem" mentoring program, as well as a big sister for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Augostina has held numerous fundraisers benefitting Love Your Brain Foundation, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, Dizzy Feet Foundation, and Atlantic City Rescue Mission.
