Satomi Hofmann is an actress, singer, musician, composer, and arranger living and working in the New York tri-state area. She is currently starring in "The Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway, with the role Wardrobe Mistress/Confidante.
Hi, my name is Satomi Hormann. I'm a Broadway actress, currently in the Phantom of the Opera. I'm also a singer, musician. Composer and arranger. And you may know me from the all female Celtic rock band, Killians Angels. So, we're living in a really interesting time right now. There's a lot of very high emotions going on. And there's a lot of talk about, kind of various forms of revolution, ways that we're looking to change the world that we live in. Change the government, change our schools, our society, and the way that we communicate with each other. And I firmly believe that revolution truly starts within yourself. That's the first place that you need to go in order to create change in the world around you. It's an old saying that be the change in the world that you want to be. The trick is, a lot of people tend to think it's like a light switch. Okay, now I'm gonna convince myself that I feel this different way about, you know, about the way that the world works. But, the important thing is to take those moments, and get quiet and really truly look at your internal life and at your thoughts and your feelings, and the way that you see the world, and slowly work on shifting those habits into something more positive. And as you do that, people around you will respond. It's really kind of a wild thing, to see how, you know, even now, since you know, it's October, 2016 and we're coming up on the Presidential election, and there's a lot more attention being given to things like the Black Lives Matter movement. And I've watched New Yorkers change their behavior toward each other. Whereas there used to be a just, a much more, hot awareness of each other's differences, and each other's difference of race. And I happen to be mixed race. Those things have been falling away, because people have taken a second, once they've seen all this around them, to really take a hard look at themselves and how they value other people in this world. And it's made a lot of that communication just so much more friendly and accepting and unified. I think there's a really wonderful way to get to a peaceful place of revolution.
