BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Global Technology Training Center (GTTC) is hosting a fundraiser, featuring an array of guest speakers, dignitaries, musical performances, and other special activities. GTTC is the first global technology center in Brooklyn, New York, under the STEM program, which was initiated by President Obama. From early in his administration, President Obama has made improving science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education a priority — he believes that every American student deserves access to a high-quality education in STEM, for both their future and for the nation’s future. Supporters of GTTC include New York State Assembly Member N. Nick Perry and New York City Council Member Jumaane D. Williams.
Media personality Shefik will serve as a guest speaker at the event, to be held at GTTC, 8914 Avenue A, Brooklyn, New York 11236, on Saturday, September 23, 2017, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET. Tickets can be purchased online at eventbrite.com/e/global-tech-meets-fashion-affair-tickets-29418463416, priced at $20. Other guest speakers include professionals from companies, such as Capital One, Ridgewood Savings Bank, Men's Health, Faith and Funding, and Designers Associates.
GTTC was founded with the goal of training a domestic workforce to fill available jobs in technology and manufacturing. Over the next decade, good paying jobs will go unfilled unless individuals are trained to meet the needs.
Now that the GTTC facility is built, and technology training has launched, the organization is seeking funding to sustain their no-cost and low-cost classes. At this time, they already have a waiting list of students seeking to take classes. As the organization builds, they are excited to generate an interest in many underserved populations in business technology, STEM concepts, and technical manufacturing.
The practical training at GTTC also includes real world mindset development, customer service skills, interviewing, and job preparation skills. Individuals need to understand the importance of learning, to adjust their interpersonal skills, as well as technical skills appropriate to the workplace.
GTTC is preparing veterans, those in low income brackets, seniors, underserved youth, and others, to be able to compete in the workforce and earn living wages. GTTC is committed to instituting real change and meet the needs of employers across all sectors.
"As a veteran myself of the United States Army, I am proud to aid in the empowerment of fellow veterans," says Shefik. "I was born in Brooklyn, New York. Coincidently, Global Technology Training Center is located less than a half-mile from where I was raised. Therefore, giving back to my community is a paramount mission."
